Barclays Premier Current Account

Hi there,

Has anyone signed up to Barclays Premier Current Account? I've had a phone call from them this morning and it seems like a bit of a no-brainer ... which suggests there might be a catch somewhere.

It doesn't look like I have to pay for it - is that true? For those of you who have used it, would you recommend it?

Have the now discontinued Premier Life Current Account

The current version of it is now free but the account comes with minimal features as standard and all the extras are added as fee incurring packages.

The "catch" is that others are offering similar offerings possibly with free extras that are of more interest to you. Havent looked in a while but HSBC Premier used to be fee free if you earn enough and came with global family travel insurance and a £500 free overdraft so it comes down to which benefits you value most.

The "premier" telephone staff are better than most other bank staff I've dealt with but there is a limit to what aspects they can deal with and as soon as you're outside of their remit you are talking to the normal Indian barclays call centres with standard levels of service etc.
