So excited!!!

Hi everyone. I'm a regular on MSE and currently planning our wedding. But I know some of my friends and a couple of members of my family are also regular users so I decided to create a new user so I can ask for help and advice without them knowing. I hope!

Anyway, just thought I'd say hi. We're just starting out. We've got a couple of venues in mind but that's all so far. So I'll probably need all the help i can get. It's so overwhelming isn't it? OH is pretty laid back about it and would be happy to get married anywhere.

Debt free since July 2013! Woo hoo! The bank actually laughed when I said I have come in to cancel my overdraft.

Do you have a date in mind yet? Most important things to do first are:
    1) Set date (make it at least a year in advance to make sure all the suppliers you want are available)
    2) Book your church/venue - try and look at a few different venues to ensure you pick the right one for you!
    3) Book the registrar (if you're having a civil ceremony rather than a church do)
    4) Relax for a bit :)

Once these major things are done, you'll have ages to sort the rest out. I booked my venue about 18 months in advance, and then barely did any planning at all for the next 6 months.

Good luck and enjoy the planning - it'll go faster than you think!

We're thinking of November next year. We're hoping outside of summer will mean we can get better deals and I have it in my head that I want fireworks! We've talked about budgets but there just seems to be so much we need to think about.

We're off to see two venues at the weekend so fingers crossed

    Hello, and welcome!
  • When you are looking at venues, my advice would be to have a general ball park figure of how many guests you might want. Lots of venues will accommodate up to a certain amount and then suggest marquees outside, which, with it being November might not be the best idea.

Also, check whether there's anything they don't allow. We went to one venue and were told we couldn't have red wine, other than with the meal.

    I hope that helps!

Bear in mind that you can't book a registrar until 12 months before the day (i.e. same date a year in advance)- we could only provisionally book venues til we were sure we had someone to actually marry us!

Get wedding insurance sorted asap- we couldn't book reception venue without that for public liability insurance.

    Agree re numbers

You can book more than 12 months however there is a charge for this {check with your local registrar as to what fees this will incur} x

I couldn't. I rang up about 3 weeks before 12 months in advance and Trafford said 'no, ring us on 27th' . They certainly did not mention any option of paying a little more to book there and then. May depend on the authority

Mine said you can reserve the date more than 12months but at a cost. Definitely worth checking if you want to book in advance
