Good luck with the op and injection.

I would seriously reconsider running as an excsercise until your foot is in better health. I would also seriously advise getting specialist Physio for your foot. Don't trust an ordinary Physio - go to the one at your local professional ballet/ dance school. Specialist dance physios are far better at feet than anyone else.

Look for excersises that are not high-impact on your feet. Swimming. Weight lifting. Pilates. Yoga. This sort of combination will give you calorie-burn, muscle strength and flexibility.

Lots and lots of water as well as fish oils. Since I've upped my fluids and started taking omega 3 I've suffered far less from DOMs etc.

However, your pain is obviously related to your overcompensating which you seem to be dealing with.

Agree with doing more weights or bodyweight exercises and nothing high impact until after your op and you are sorted.

Rest, cut back on the aerobics classes until your shin splints are sorted.

Thanks All, Had pre op today, having my procedure on the 26th August, so definitely taking it easy until then. Going for a bike ride shortly to see how that feels.

was about to type but seemingly beaten to it - sleep is better than any remedy past or present. if you get sleep, your body will heal itself.
  • I've just commented on another thread about Yoga. We have a DVD called Power Yoga featuring Rodney Yee. This is great for loosening up. It is an hour long though so I would recommend doing the whole DVD twice a week and selecting a few exercises out of it to do as your post workout stretching e.g. downward dog, upward dog, triangle pose, standing forward bend etc. etc. P.S. I second the advice about shin splits, they won't get better if you keep pounding. Try something lower impact like cycling or swimming.

Fish oil (never - cod liver oil), MSM, vitamin C and good multivit ideally containing added antioxidants. Also good idea to take days off between training and change your trainers frequently (and get good ones to start with). Also as a natural remedy taking a drink containing a pinch of turmeric and some fresh ginger post workout can help.
