Pastry for lactose intolerant friend

I'm baking an apple pie for a lactose intolerant friend. My normal pastry for such a pie would be 200g plain flour, 50g butter and 50g lard and I get pretty good results
This time, of course, I can't use butter. So I was wondering should I use 100g Block marg (I use Stork) or if I go 50/50 butter marg will I get a somewhat similar texture
As always many thanks for your advice
Kevin

Butter is mostly fat, lactose is sugar. Are you sure butter is out of the question? What does your friend use? Maybe look up a vegan recipe. Is trex a possibility?
My DD had milk and soy protein intolerance, I found vitalite or olive oil spreads were fine for cakes. But never tried pastry. It was, incidentally rubbish for "buttercream" as it was far too wet.Bossymoo

My daughter is lactose intolerant and a coeliac, we use lard instead of butter, I cannot stand the taste of margarine so it is something we haven't tried, remember only the block version is lactose free. If you did 50/50 butter and marg it will contain lactose.0

Dairy free margarine works fine. Or if you want to cheat, jus rol puff and short rust pastry are both dairy free!0

daisiegg beat me to it! my son was dairy intolerant and I had been making pastry for him with soya marge. but it wasn't all that nice tbh - then I discovered that shop bought ready made pastry didn't contain any dairy! and tastes good too! just check the labelling as not all brands are dairy free - Jus roll was last time I checked.0
