It is a game a great big one but they have never met shopper like us.
I hope so. We are a minority, because the great public get taken it by it all and they (the suppliers) know it. And they manipulate the public and their preferences. Time for us to continue to manipulate their T&Cs back.
I'd watch that programme if you haven't folks, as it's absolutely the very nub of points about money-saving and avoiding falling for it all (as much as possible).
And while I'm at it, I'll diss going for Pot Noodles and the like in the belief that they are superior - should be getting cheaper own brands, if absolutely desperate, in my view. (S/P Noodles and all equivalents have gone up way in price over the last five years though, I seem to think.) That's an aspect itself - the whole branded product vs own brand thing. All to make you think that the brand is worth paying for. And then the different layers of own branding within even those, all to create the impression that the more expensive ones (called "Finest" by the supermarket that is selling them to you) are better and worth it. Even S/P is, itself, aimed at a market and there to shape the preferences of the people who go for it. For Tesco Finest, always read "Tesco Allegedly Finest (according to Tesco, in their opinion):p".
Now - if you have MOCs off (allegedly) "Finest" products that compare to way cheaper elsewhere than they 'should' - that's a different matter!:):) Absolutely pile in there - if it really is worth it.0 -

My M local had these last week but they were on the rtc stand (although not stickered) so I assumed it was just a one off
400g own-brand 'value' biscuits (as opposed to 250g:( McVities ones) may be cheaper. Though sadly in my stores - this is where I thought 'no wonder the country is obese' again - they are buying the A CBYs on 3 for £1:(:(, and then failing to pick up a non-appearing item as part of that:(, thus losing out drastically vs elsewhere and therefore, as I see it, paying over the odds (compared to getting a trigger as part of it which would then, if available, mean a good comparison).
Tssk - lack-of-knowledge Joe Public:(.
It's Joe Public, definitely, as that OU section on supermarkets suggests, being led off beyond the essential cheap products that drew them into the store to go and buy additional items that they didn't originally intend to buy, such as the 3 for £1 biscuits. Just because they think it's a good offer, get taken by it and pulled away from their original shopping lists, thus to pay more than they intended. Supermarket game in action again. Runs total counter to money-saving.0 -
