Pressure canner.

Anyone know where I can buy one of these fairly cheaply or knows of canning forum in the UK where people might sell them 2nd hand?

They have them everywhere in America but here they are rare and expensive.

I grow a lot of veg and buy a lot of meat and want to start canning it all.

Help Please .

  • I had one wishlisted on Amazon, a 'Mirro' 22-quart, but it's gone up from £80.00 to £160 whilst I've been saving :(:( I haven't checked but if you look around amazon there might be a couple of cheaper models more reasonably priced?

The other option is to buy from the US and pay the shipping fees, if it works out cheaper that way.
  • I just checked the site that BrassicWoman has clicked, and there's 10% off your first purchase as a new customer, so that could work out really well for you.

well, it'll have taxes and import. I'm just not sure what normal pricing is for this kind of thing!

  • Pretty high sadly, the one I mentioned earlier is one of the few I've seen in the UK for under the £130ish mark, and they're also quite hard to find in general.

I'm bladdy kicking myself for not stretching to the £80 when I had the chance!

Might be worth looking into other european online stores, as we as the US ones.

Just had a look on that website and shipping is £44 plus tax and duty :(

Would it be worth getting one from Ebay from those who ship here.

Amazon.com do have shipping including taxes etc and estimated import fees.
This makes the $79 23 Quart Presto Pressure Canner $134 (£79).

If you take the chance on the import taxes you generally pay much more and pay the courier a handling fee on top.

I talked to EVERYONE I knew about a canner - for about six months!

Then a friend at the local Uni heard that a visiting prof was coming over and they managed to find a free one on Craigslist and he carried it over for me.

It's fab - I love it now that I have sourced some local jars. In fact we are off on holiday next week with a box of jars of various quick to heat dinners.

For me its an investment - like my pressure cookers a great addition to the kitchen.

Hope you find one you can afford soon hon.

  • Nuatha that's fab! The price of the one linked from ZON US is the same as the old one I was looking at with all the fees etc., added on. I don't feel quite so bad about waiting now!
