Losing money on a USA refund

Do I just have to loose £10 through a refund because of the currency conversion.

I bought an item from 2shopper.com online and purchase the item for $317.70 through paypal.com, this was converted into £162.13 and taken from my Alliance & Leicester VISA debit card.

2shopper.com send me an e-mail a few days later saying:-
Dear Mr.Wood, the JukeBox you purchased on 2shopper.com is out of stock and we won't be selling this product anymore. Therefore, we've given you 100% refund for this transaction. Thank you.

I have checked my paypal account to see if I have recieved the refund, I have got $317.70 back but only £152.75 after conversion.

Is this just one of those things that happens or can I get that £10 back?

I know I have had this problem before on a credit card and egg credit card refunded me the difference after I was falsly charged and refunded by am american hotel.

Does anyone have any information on how to get my full refund?

I think, unfortunately, you will have to bear the cost as this time the card hasn't been used fraudently.

At the end of the day, you have been unfortuate that the exhange rate moved against you - after all, if the opposite had been the case and you actually got back more than you had paid, would you have declined the payment?

Send an email to paypal and they should refund the difference. If not then ask you bank to intervene.

When this happened to me, I called the credit card company and explained what had happened and they took pity on me and refunded the 'loss'.

This not only happens due to exchange rate changes but also the commision charged by the company doing the conversion. They charge on both the sale and the refund which is why you are down on the deal.

What you should have done was pay by a no commision credit card like the Nationwide or Post Office and got Paypal to bill your card in USD. That way the conversion to GBP from USD would be done commision free by the CC company saving you a tidy sum.

The same thing happened to me on a much larger scale.
i was purchasing something from NYC and made the payment via BACS. Unfortunately the name of the recipeint's account was very similar but not identical to the one i put on the form in the bank. It meant that after conversion to dollars, it was returned.
The bank charged me £20 for the transfer of around £2000 but when it was returned it was around £80 less than i had sent. They charged me another £20 to send it again.
Despite my queries and pleading they said that they had done nothing wrong and were therefore not willing to refund/help/assist/make a goodwill gesture.

I realise that it wasn't entirely their fault but their lack of willingness to help meant i closed the account and moved elsewhere.
When i closed the account the teller asked why so i told her. She offered to get the manager to try to sort it out but i told her that i had already written to him and the customer services in Birmingham and had been told by both that they were unwilling to help.

The bank was TSB but I detested their call centres so i had no hesitation in moving tothe Nationwide. At least i can call the local branch!

EDIT : On my second transfer, due to the different exchange rate, i upgraded the postage service to super express and it was cheaper than the original transaction wold have been!!
