Old unused bank account

Hi everyone, just want some advice as my wife has received a letter from Lloyds TSB saying that her old bank account that she hasn't used in nearly 5years and is in her maiden name, has been sold to Lowell Portfolio. The apparent debt is just under £400 which I assume is from charges as she hasn't used it for so long. Not sure what to do as it's money we don't have and they haven't been in touch for over 4 years. Any help is much appreciated.

Ask for statements if you haven't already had them.
They won't have charged simply for not using an account - it must have had an O/D balance.0 -

Send them the provit letter, available from the stickies at the top of this forum, ask for statements and a complete breakdown of any charges applied to the account.

I agree with sourcrates.
The other thing is thta you may not have £400, but at this point they may well accept £50 from you to settle the debt if you wife is say not working so unable to pay anything. But don't at this stage admit liability for anything.0
