Hi guys, Iwas asking my butcher what she has on offer and she said Brisket at £2.80 per lb, is that good? Don't know what brisket is, never had it. But might try it if that's a good price

Tesco have brisket for £3.18/lb & I bet the butcher's is better.
Brisket is great slow roasted/braised/pot roasty type of thing"Science is a wonderful thing if one does not have to earn one's living at it" Einstein 19510 -
At £2.80 a lb I would bite her arm off I love brisket and done in a slow cooker it just melts in the mouth, got a flavour all of its own and is reminicent of how beef used to taste like before the supermarkets started shrink wrapping it. You get gorgeous dripping from it as well Strain off into a pot and use to roast the spuds in0

We have this in the winter as a slow roast with root veggies. Its lovely. Freezes well as well, I freeze it with the gravy from the slow roast.0

Brisket is wonderful, cook it really slowly (slow cooker is perfect) and it will melt in your mouth. I'd fill the freezer at that price and it'll be better than any of the supermarkets' meat.0

Ok, so what's the best way to cook this? Lol. I was thinking of slow cooking it, but reading threads on this forum, it seems ppl slow cook them for 11 hours. I only have 7 hours till dinner time. Will I just put the setting a bit higher?0

If time is short when I cook brisket, I always cook it on high for a couple of hours, and then turn it down to medium until I want to use it, it will then fall apart. If I have loads of time then that is when I put it on low all day.
HTH2016 is the year I am going to find time for me, and cherish the time I spend with my friends and family. It is also time to save - Aim £4,000 - So far this year - £230/£4,0000 -

I am cooking a 3 lb piece of topside in my slow cooker today, but I won't be putting it on until about 12 noon. I shall put it on high for about 3 hours (until all the liquid is bubbling well) and then turn it to low. I aim to eat at between 5-6 pm. HTH0 -
Great thanks
how long would it take to cook on low?
