Wife's Bank Account Raided

My wife's bank account has had over £500 withdrawn today and I'm concerned that it's been raided by one of my creditors (payday loans). Are they able to do this?

Her account is in her sole name and is at a different bank to mine. The only money being paid in is her salary and expenses so there's no link to me at all.
All my debts are solely in my name.

All the bank say is that the transaction came from Glasgow and they can't do anything until the transaction hits the account tomorrow.

Any advice would be welcome.
Thank you

  • CPA changed as of the 1st July 2014 if you have likes of a payday loan, something like this I'm sure most lenders were sending emails, if you have a visa debit demand a 'charge back' with your bank if the transaction is not expected

Have you given the payday loan company your wifes debt card details in relation to paying the loan you have with them ?
If you have, then they are entitled to do this to reclaim there money, if you have not given them the card details, then they cant debt the account.
In order for a transaction to be made, at some point, you must hand over card details, if you have not done this, then it is something else entirely.

  • I definitely haven't given them my wife's card or bank details so it does sound like it might be someone else.

    Thanks for your help.

Check your online banking to see if a very small amount was taken out in the last few days as a 'test' amount.

I had my bank account hacked.

I was advise by the fraud squad at the bank to check all the time on my online banking at pending transactions which I do all the time now.

If I do not recognise something then I just give them a ring and report it to enable me to get my money back once it has left the account.

Maybe your wife should check her online banking she has it just to check to see who is asking for the money.

I heard if this happening to a colleague, I'd get the account frozen until you've found out what is going on.
