Welcome financial services

Initially, I had a car finance policy with Welcome car finance. This was cleared when the vehicle was stolen in November 2006 as I had been sold a GAP policy.
Shortly afterwards (26/07/2007) I took a loan from the same company for £2000, payments were made on a frequent basis until I received a settlement figure on 27/03/2008 for £1173.95 I subsequently moved home & lost correspondence with them. In 2013 – I received a letter from Welcome car finance to state that I still owed them £7640.27?. This debt was appealed & they then transferred it to IND ref:1410242555 Once again, I appealed this to which I received no response whatsover. The next correspondence I received was an attachment of earnings order (for £9853.30).
After this correspondence, I communicated with FSCS reference mis-sold payment protection insurance, they found I was eligible for the sum of £5452.30 – this I was assured would be offset against the alleged balance “Owed” to Welcome financial services, as of today (11/07/2014) my outstanding balance, after paying £1600 is £8353.30.

Can anyone please advise what I can do about this ridiculous situation?

I think this is the source of the ridiculous situation. It sounds like you are saying you moved away and stopped paying your debt unless I have misunderstood and you payed the settlement figure and they confirmed this in writing that the debt was paid in full?

  • Unfortunately no - a very financially misled youth resulted in many debts & as such, (believe it or not) this was one that caused me less concern than the others & was easily forgotten - I am attempting to finalise my debts in order to get my affairs in order & will not be borrowing to clear them so I was hoping for advice - would Welcome not have to have frozen the interest at some point? Failing that - why is it that they wouldn't have removed the PPI reclaim from my attachment of earnings?

  • This was November 2013, I have been paying the attachment of earnings alongside it hoping the statement would change when they amended it?

Who told you what your current balance is?

Ask Welcome to check to make sure that your FSCS redress has been applied correctly.
