Hi I have got married, my b/r is off my records as is the defaults etc that have gone with it. My name is changed and we have just applied for our first joint bank account, he has credit with with Cousins for our couch, furniture with Oakland which we are about to pay off with wedding money and a credit card with 2k so all in all about 5k worth of debt with 3 different lenders. We are looking at getting a car so he applied for a loan in his name last night, we can afford it but he got declined. Is this because of my dreaded b/r and will this effect us forever as we want to get a mortgage & hope I don't penalise him for the rest of our lives

Lender should be able to tell you if it was something on his credit reports, although usually they will not tell you exactly what.
If records of his (or your bankruptcy if a financial link remains) are still there, then could be that.
If nothing from the BR remains then it is possible it being picked up from other sources, but probably unlikely, especially if he never went BR himself.
More likely to be he just didn't fit that lenders required criteria.Free/impartial debt advice: National Debtline | StepChange Debt Charity | Find your local CAB
