Would this be okay for my mum to surf the internet? Has it got windows? has it got built in wireless?

    Constructive comments only please, lol.

PS, my mum won't be needing it for gaming.

Yes, yes, no. More memory would be good, an extra 512MB of DDR333 (also known as PC2700) would noticeably improve performance. This will cost another 25 quid or so.

Yep, they've screwed up, should be 1.5GHz processor. Stick another 512MB RAM in there and it'll be a perfectly capable machine for a bit of wordprocessing and Internet use, especially for those with limited cash or the older generation who will just be making light use of it (sorry to anyone offended by this !).

Thats exactly what I am looking to use it for, my mum wants to be able to get online and find the bargains herself - watch out MSE.

It says its not wireless enabled, could I just plug a wireless adapter in to make it wireless? Sorry for being dim!

it will definitely have USB ports (probably 2) so yes. Should also have a PC-Card slot but I wouldn't like to say this for definite.
  • There's some really good deals on fully reconditioned laptops at pc world(i've loads and they look and have that brand new smell)for very resonable prices, Here's a link to pc world's reconditioned laptops :

The first one in the list, for your mother it all depends on wha kind of budget you want to spend. It may be worth spending a little bit more in the long run. For example a usb adapter cost's around 15£, your ram upgrade will cost about 15£(Don't if you can even upgrade it in the 199£ one) that takes it to about 230£, might be worth having a look at the reconditioned ones.

I went to collect mine but SA said that it would not support broadband because of the 256mb, also said it would definitely not take wireless.

Thanks for this - looked ok for the surfing/email/wp etc, nice to have a bit of confirmation.

They appear to have stock in Leeds, Wakefield, and Hudderfield by the way.
