Friday 11th July - What Small DFW Things Will You Do Today?

When we start out on the Debt-Free Wannabe trail we do loads of big "stuff" that makes quite a difference to our situation. These include having our lightbulb moment, cutting up the credit cards and cancelling Sky and the Gym.
But once we have done the bigger stuff, we often feel that we are not making the same amount of progress, when in fact the small steps are helping us form good financial habits and helping us get closer everyday to staying in control and becoming debt free, or staying debt free...
Examples could be hanging washing out instead of using the tumble dryer or leaving your purse/wallet at home to avoid the risk of spending. :money:
Morning campers
weather here is positively autumnal!
DFW things for today:
* Flylady bathroom
* sand at least 1 door! Jeez this hallway is never going to be finished!
* dgd going to CM for first session today. Hope my anxiety can take it!
* lovely roast for dinner - friend coming round so free bottle of wine
* go to farm shop & get fresh veg for dinner/week ahead
* do fridge/freezer/cupboard inventory & a meal plan
* checked banking
* did VSP & will update sig
* make some sort of dessert....
[STRIKE]* email new boss about starting Monday...[/STRIKE]
Right trying to realistic about what I can achieve! Have a great day guys x

Good morning all.
Off on our Sun holiday today, packed as much as I can then we will pop into Mr T for food for the weekend to try and keep the spends down. I am going with my friend and godchildren and she appears to be packing enough to keep them entertained for about 3 years so we should be ok!
Quick MSE things for today:
One load of washing and on the airer to dry over the weekend without me.
Fridge & freezer turned down as won't be being opened and shut for a few days so will save energy
Check banks
Check refund from Next - items sent back last Saturday and still not showing as refunded
Have a good weekend
S xI have enough money for the rest of my life... as long as I never have to pay for anything again!

Hello all, Happy Friday :j
Today I am at work, earning and not spending (apart from giving my colleague the money for this weeks lifts, which is much cheaper than using the car/bus).
Am charging my phone at work, have put laundry on airer to dry (lashing down this morning), have had breakfast at home and am about to have jacket spud for lunch (put an extra one in last night). Took Bolognese out of freezer for tonight.
Have checked bank accounts, no surprises.
Just realised I still haven't checked lottery ticket.....
I used to be a childminder when my boys were little DNMS - all the kids had a fab time. Fingers crossed.
Hope you all have a good day x0 -
Afternoon Friday Savers,
Today's small positive money stuff:
*Our new rescue cat went for his 1st vet check-up today. Only needed his inoculations so a smaller bill than I was expecting, as you never quite know what they'll find with these ex-strays.
*Cleaned whole house from top to bottom using minimal products.
*Made packed lunches for today & tomorrow, plus work snacks.
*Updated budgets.
*Looked out vouchers ready for shopping trip at the weekend, also took some cash from our Clothes Piggy as mr f needs a couple of items.
*Did some surveys.
*Wrote down Amazon vouchers which I've won on one of the online forums I'm on at the moment. There are a couple of books I'd earmarked to buy to go in the present box, so I'll price those up later, too.
*Meals as per meal plans - spicy chicken I cooked on Weds with home-made jacket wedges & a big salad (home grown lettuce & cucumber)
*Lots of lemons in our fruit basket as I got a good deal on the market & bought more than I needed. Enough to make lemon marmalade, so will be prepping that this afternoon & putting it to soak overnight for jamming tomorrow.
*Had a conversation with mr f about job security which isn't great (public sector). Weighed up pros & cons of applying for other jobs now, even if they pay a bit less, or hanging on till he's pushed so that he gets some redundancy money. He has long service so thie would make us a bit more secure in paying the mortgage while we both applied for jobs. Decided that unless a job offer came along that is totally outstanding, this is probably what we need to do. Glad we talk about money a lot more nowadays.
*Tended veggie garden, watering everything as we haven't had the rain we were supposed to be getting except about 3 drips yesterday.
*Filed away some financial stuff & generally got myself organised.
OK, kettle going on for a drink, then it's time to deal with all those lemons. Actually, if it makes a nice lot, I shall add some of it to the jars I tart up later in the year for giving as gifts, so a double plus.
*Free leisure will be knitting (for present cupboard), finishing my library book, playing with cat & writing my blog.......all spend-free activities, yay!
Have a good Friday, everyone.
f x2026's challenges: 1) To rebuild our Emergency Fund to at least £5k.
2) To read 50 books (12/50) 3) The Re-Shrinking of Foxgloves 8.1kg/30kg
Remember....if you have to put it on a credit card, extend your overdraft or take out a loan to buy whatever it is, you probably can't afford it, as that's not your money, it's somebody else's!0 -
Here are my debt-free things I will do for today:
- Use my bike to go to work.
- Cook my own food instead of buying at cafeterias.
- Bring my own water and snacks at work.0 -
Hello everyone, hope you have had lovely productive mornings!
Working from home again, nice big fuel and lunch save!
Doing some more washing and line drying, gotta love this weather!
I have bought three cards from Moonpig today on Prepay which I paid over a year ago, was a pleasant surprise and means I got a 16th and 50th birthday card without paying and a fab wedding card! I know its not free, but its something that I had forgotten I had done and it gives you a 20% discount!
Also instead of changing the currency back from our hols we are going to use it for our friends wedding present as they are holidaying in the same place! Saving us money in exchanging and we have already accounted for it so dont have to worry about finding it for the wedding now!
Have bought a gift for my sisters 16th which cost £20 including delivery, so not a save but its lovely and I can afford it this month so better to buy when you can!
Have brilliant Fridays!

Hello everyone...I've been awol for a bit, but am really missing the discipline of this thread. Hoping to be back with you regularly for the rest of the month. Aiming to lose the last of my CC debt by August 15th. Can see how I can get nearly there, but there is about a £200 gap, so tight belts despite school holidays and other difficult things going on.
Exciting to hear there is a new cat around foxgloves
