Loan company insolvent & debt not showing on my credit file. Am I free & clear?
I took a personal loan about 5 years ago right before I lost my job and things got really ugly with the recession etc. I only made about 6 payments on the loan before being unable to continue meeting the repayments. I haven't contacted the company since and to be honest have ignored the situation whilst more pressing concerns were addressed.
Anyhow now that I am back on my feet again I have decided to start cleaning up my credit rating and recently signed up for Experian's free trial and to my surprise there is no sign of this debt. After a little digging it turns out this company went under not long after I defaulted on the loan. My question is am I free and clear given that the company is gone, no one appears to be chasing me and there is no record of this debt on my credit file?

If the lender went in to liquidation then it is likely that its debts were purchased by another company and that you now owe them the money. If you stopped paying say 4.5years ago then that creditor likely still has amount 1.5years to chase you for the debt or take court action against you (unless you are in Scotland).
Have you just checked experian so far?
Do you still live at the same address where you took out the loan?
It is possible you won't be chased for this debt, but not guaranteed. You are not 'free and clear' yet.A smile enriches those who receive without making poorer those who giveor "It costs nowt to be nice"0
