This is a typical anti-union attitude.

Is it really? So you'd be surprised to know I'm a member of a union then?

I think I'd be a little annoyed if a staff member felt the need to bring in the heavy mob

This isn't about getting into a bun fight with management, it's about policy compliance, equality and fairness - not always associated with managment driven by targets and agenda.

I realise that but the point that I was making was that if I was someone's manager and had always treated them fairly, I'd be annoyed they felt they couldn't trust me to deal with it appropriately.

The trust I work for has thier policies on line and it states that individual arrangements need to be negotiated. Advice gained from the OH about how best to phase the return and how work arrangements can be managed without impacting on an employee's pay ( and I think this should incorporate holiday too)

Your line manager may not be overly familiar with the policy too and it may be that you discuss the implications with her/him .

have a look for your pct or trust online I can access our policies from home. Good luck with your negotiations.

Just to update you. I have met with my line manager and a person from HR they have agreed a 4wk phased return without using any AL when I can perform all my duties in my permanent post. After that I'm going to use 1 day AL a week for several weeks as this will help me with my childcare arrangements. Due to my injury I am unable to perform fully in my proper role so they have found me another role for the time being.

At the moment I feel they have been supportive and fair, otherwise I would have had to stay off sick and would have finished up on half pay. Thanks all for your advice.
