Hi all,
I have started making my own almond milk but the supermarket almonds are around £1 per 100g and I need 125g for a litre so the milk is reasonably expensive (although cheaper than just buying the milk!)
I wondered if anyone knows the cheapest source of almonds? I know I got some from Lidl but I can't remember how much I paid!
Thanks,
Kevin

I find they are cheaper at the local ethnic supermarkets, turkish or asian.
Lidl do them loose, weigh your own, but I found them too salty.0 -

I think you need shelled but unprocessed almonds for almond milk.
The cheapest place for almonds that I have found is local ethnic grocers.
If you do find a good source and buy in bulk then avoid any going off by storing them in the freezer in (eg) zip lock bags. They don't take long to defrost.0 -
I have seen large bags in the World food section of Tesco-can't remember exactly how much they were but do remember that they were a lot cheaper than the little bags in the baking section0

I've just started experimenting making almond, hazelnut and coconut milk myself after watching videos on youtube, and i learned not to throw the solids away as you can use it to make biscuits etc.
I put the solids on a baking tray, pop in the oven for 20mins on a low to medium heat til lightly toasted. When cool, whizz in a food processor if you want a 'finer flour' or you can leave them as they are. I save mine up in an airtight jar till i have enough to make some thing with them.
I use a nutribullet to make the milk which has got to be one of the best gadgets i have ever bought, I use it every day.0 -
Thanks terra_ferma, I'll try doing that.
