Scams

Hi all I'm new and I was wondering how many people received scam calls etc?

I reviewed a missed call tonight from 02073451299 and I googled it and everyone is saying that they tell you that you have won a competition but then ask for bank details for a £44 a month lottery scheme.

Is this normal? To receive scam calls based on competition entries?

I've blocked the number now but how do you tell whether you have genuinely won something or whether it's a phishing scheme?

I love applying for comps and the anticipation is great but emails of this type and calls like this are ruining it for me.

Can anyone boost my confidence?

Thanks in anticipation
Wishing everyone the best of luck. :)

    Common sense really!

Don't give out your bank details lol!

Always hit the entered and thanks buttons so you know what you've entered. Always search for a comp win to check you entered it.

Ignore anything that says 'you may be a winner' or you have been selected (out of thin air) to be entered to a comp.

Watch those tick boxes! Don't tick for 'junk', or to receive 'junk' from 'selected parters', etc.

  • Many thanks both. It saddens me to think that there are people out there that would try this sort of thing.

I haven't been entering for very long and I haven't won anything but I enjoy applying and this just took the shine off it a bit yesterday. I won't let it stop me looking for competitions or for applying but it seems that you have to be super careful because there are some horrible people who will try anything to scam you.

Thanks for the link to the scam posts marg2k8. Interesting reading.
