Passport details needed for a UK prize?

Was lucky enough to win a night in an Edinburgh hotel, a day pass to Edinburgh Zoo and £70 towards travel for a family of 4 with Intu Metrocentre. Only thing is, the London based promotion company they use want all of our passport details and will not book the hotel until they are provided.

Has anyone come across this before, I'm reluctant to hand over such details when they are unnecessary for the prize.

Thanks
Karen x

I would be reluctant too. Have they said exactly why they need it?

Is it a comp that was on MSE? Someone may have pasted the T&C's in to a post, if so.

Yes, I have had to also provide passport details for a C4 win (prize agent was "Black Tomato" based in London) ....... they need it to proof you are over 18

Just photocopy or scan your passport and black out any numbers or other personal info you don't wish them to see ........ however your name & DOB need to be visable

Ah! I see Daza, hopefully that's why...I was thinking they needed passport numbers etc. I have emailed them to ask why they need them, and what they will do with the information once we've taken the prize. The company is IMS, so not a pokey little backstreet one lol

The comp was on here, I havent thanked the poster yet as can't find it, but will thank the poster as soon as I do. We had to name the baby dragon at the Intu Metrocentre and we named him 'Dinkysaurus' x

Actually, looking at the form they have sent me to complete and return, it asks for passport numbers :/

I wouldn't worry too much --- nobody can do much with a passport number
you have to give them to any airline when booking a flight

I was asked 2 weeks ago for a passport photo or driving license photo to claim a bottle of aftershave!

When I asked why they said it was to prove I was who I said I was and that I was over 18, they told me to block out any details they did not need to see, but leave my name address and date of birth.

Just take a photo block out what they don't need to see and email it to claim your prize ;)

I've had to use my driving licence to claim ticket master vouchers. It was an 18-25 comp and they needed proof I was that age! :)

I thick it adds extra security and if you block out all the numbers there's nothing they can do as people have said beofr :) x
