Just to alert people that commuters at Hammersmith station in London can now get fresh 500ml chilled and filtered water refills free. Saves you having to buy bottles from a shop, usually the only choice you have at stations. And of course, better for your environment, less litter etc.
The water is available from a machine called a HydraChill. You can bring any bottle to it for a free 500ml refill. If you don’t have a bottle handy, you can buy a nice dishwasher safe reusable one from the machine for £2 and keep refilling it. That revenue helps fund the upkeep of the machine, so it’s a win-win.
It’s about choice really. If you prefer bottled water, fine. If you believe mains-fed public drinking water should be available free and hygienic, here’s a new option. British idea, too. Hammersmith commuters are loving it.
The HydraChill trial has been approved by by TfL and Thames Water. If it proves successful there is no reason why this idea could not spread to all parts of the country, not just London.
More people need to know that this sort of option can be the norm.
