Can't connect to internet

Using 2 computers networked via BT Voyager 210.

Windows 98 computer is connected via USB and can access internet.

Windows XP computer (only 6 months old) connected via ethernet (Service Pack 2 installed and all updates installed) was working perfectly until this morning.

Receive the following message when trying to connect to internet:

Windows could not detect any network cards installed.

Also this message appeared:
Realtek Audiio Manager
Access vioaltion at address 0046116A in module RTHDCPL.EXE Read of address 000002B8

Have tried System Restore but that didn't work.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Have you tried simply rebooting the PC?
  • System restore reboots it at the end nutter so that obviously hasn't fixed it :)

It is a strange one to randomly appear. It looks like there's a driver conflict or even IRQ Hardware conflict but I dont understand why that would randomly happen.

Basically your PC can no longer detect your network card thats attached to it. Try reinstalling your network driver! Will come on discs you were given with your pc unless you bought a seperate one :)

Your audio manager problem could possibly be just a seperate driver issue which we can look at after... Seems a big coincidence though..

  • Yep, I've tried rebooting, switching off the router and unplugging the ethernet to force the computer to see the connection.
  • Thanks I try that, the only other thing I could think of was, there were some Window updates yesterday and of course it's Friday the 13th......
  • You could remove the update in add/remove programs and tick the "include updates" box to see the windows updates...

  • Two things, as this is a common problem with the BT voyager 210 router try type http://voyager.home in the browser to get to the config pages when on ethernet, disconnecting the win 98 before you do his.

    Check IE proxy settings too.

also check for this update msKB933566., if this ahs downloaded remove it, via the control panel, remove it and then try rebooting and see if this helps.

  • I'm sorry if I'm being thick but I can't connect to the internet via the ethernet. Tried removing the update and a further update from yesterday, but still receiving the same message.

Trying to locate network driver on driver disc but also noticed that the printer won't work now. Help!
