On Sunday I am going to run 52 miles

So on Sunday after months of training I am set to do the 50 Mile Challenge near Canterbury in Kent – 52.4miles of running - hope it isn’t too hot! It is going to be tough but I’ve raised almost £2,000 though for a charity my mum set up before she passed away in 2001, so the thought of that and everyone who has sponsored me will keep me going!

I did it. Took me 10hours and 22minutes of running, but I did it. Toughest part was undoubtedly at the halfway point of 26.2miles when I came very close to turning round and going back to the car to go home, but I said to myself I would complete that lap, even if I had to walk it (it was 8 laps of 6.55miles) and then see how I felt. About a mile after feeling at my worst I felt as good as I had done since the first lap and when I got back to the checkpoint at 32.75miles I felt great!
The last three laps were tough, but I just slowly trudged on and finished at 4.20pm after starting at 6am.
Not that it is a race, but you can't help comparing yourself against others, I was the 9th finisher of 37 people, not bad for someone who had not done a marathon and just three half marathons before and who only really started training for it in around February. Oh and I raised £2.5k for a charity very close to my heart, which is mainly what kept me going at my lowest ebb.
Not sure if I will do anything like it again though!0 -
