Wednesday 9th July - What small DFW things will you do today?

When we start out on the Debt-Free Wannabe trail we do loads of big "stuff" that makes quite a difference to our situation. These include having our lightbulb moment, cutting up the credit cards and cancelling Sky and the Gym.
But once we have done the bigger stuff, we often feel that we are not making the same amount of progress, when in fact the small steps are helping us form good financial habits and helping us get closer everyday to staying in control and becoming debt free, or staying debt free...
Examples could be hanging washing out instead of using the tumble dryer or leaving your purse/wallet at home to avoid the risk of spending. :money:
Morning :wave: Happy hump day everyone
actually it's sad for me! The closer we get to the weekend, the closer the end of my holiday is
with dgd to look after it hasn't exactly been the relaxing time it usually is when I have time off!
moomin I meant to say the other day I'm also reading GoTs. What do you think? It's kind of the same as the series but also a bit different!
DFW things for today:
* read Martin's email
* check banking
* check onepoll
* sand at least 1 door!
* change energy supplier
* make cinnamon buns - really want to do this today. The proving & kneeding is putting me off!
* call Tesco about missing parcel
* Might take dgd to the soft play later. Will use her birthday money to pay for it. Contemplating buying a season pass but we worked out we would need to go 14 times in a year or 10 times in 6 months to make it cost effective. Can't see us going that often so thinking about just putting the money aside and using it each time we go....
* all meals from stores
* bubble & squeak sausages out of freezer for dinner
* get chicken out of freezer for tomorrow's dinner
Ok think that's all I'll have time for! Have a lovely day, whatever the weather is like where you are! x

determined new ms - thanks for starting us off. Reading about your dgd and soft play really put a smile on my face
weather's lovely here, hope it is where you are too
Hello all,
Stressful morning this morning as last night we took the homeless guy back in because he's finding it hard to settle in his place. I felt sorry for him because he's lonely. But this morning he's been stressing me out - being around, talking to me, asking questions (I know I sound terribly harsh) but I did just get a stressful letter through the post this morning.
I got Further Steps Notice from the courts about a week ago for my OH's fine for driving with no insurance 18 months ago. Rang the number on the letter up and asked what to do because we hadn't been means tested before the Further Steps arrived. She said write to Swansea Crown Court, but now I'm starting to think I should've written to the Fines Officer at another court
Anyway:
[STRIKE]* Take him to Morrisons to spend his food vouchers & also pick up some things for us[/STRIKE]
[STRIKE]* Check big project I did at work has saved. It has PHEW.[/STRIKE]
[STRIKE]* Type up grievance at work letter & print & talk to supervisor[/STRIKE]
[STRIKE]* Check noddle credit report - all good[/STRIKE]
[STRIKE]* Clean kitchen[/STRIKE]
[STRIKE]* Chase up welcome pack from work [/STRIKE]
[STRIKE]* Check if his estate agents is online - they're not
[/STRIKE]
* Chase up requested tenancy agreement & HB overpayment
* Ring Swift?
* Ring Courts?
* Catch up with CAB homework
* Add recent work experiences to a list of things to talk about at interviews & to CV (CAB, dispute at work, taking in Rob)
* Clean out guinea pigs' cage
* Hoover living room
* Open Regular Savers account
* Write a complaint about Yorkshire Water
* Check final mobile phone bill & cancel
* Ring Sky & get wrong direct debit refunded
* Check PayPal refund0 -
Morning all, and thanks DNMS for starting us off this morning. Today is my day off work and is normally a spendthrift day, but have lots of chores to do around the house so not leaving it!! As long as the internet doesn't send me any treats I should be ok!
Today:
Check bank
Check FPL (fingers crossed)
Sort emails
Admin for DHs company - he is away so I get delegated secretarial duties!
Deep clean kitchen with some of the millions of cleaning products in the cupboard! - found one rogue mouldy strawberry in the fridge so now need to clean the whole kitchen to keep my OCD at bay!
Catch up on laundry, dry here at the moment so will put on the line to dry
No food shopping today as have enough for me for today, am at a friend's for dinner tomorrow and then leave for my Sun holiday on Friday!
I hope you all have a lovely day!I have enough money for the rest of my life... as long as I never have to pay for anything again!

Morning Wednesday savers,
Today's small things:
*Popped an extra wash on as such a good drying day outside.
*Watered & fed cukes, aubs, tomatoes, chillies & peppers.
*Made curry paste....doing Madhur Jaffrey's whole curried chicken later.
*Emailed company about a faulty item I was given as a gift as am trying to arrange for the gift-givers to have a refund.
*Did a few surveys.
*Sorted out our grocery budget (3 shops left at £40.73 this month so should be ok), also updated my July personal spends budget & our Household Piggy. All figures now correct.
*Refilled tiny plastic boxes with value dried fruit for work snacks.
*Knit more of current project (a jumper to go in present box)
*Pick courgette & a few peas from garden to go in tonight's rice.
*Free entertainment: Finish library book, continue garden wildlife survey & maybe watch a recorded tv prog later.
*Did ironing & switched off for last garment to save energy.
*Went through a load of Nectar vouchers which arrived in the post to see if any of them are useable.....only one possible, they weren't nearly as useful as they looked once I'd read them all.
*Free 'Reloved' magazine arrived in the post....thanks to whoever it was on here who posted the link. Looks interesting.
OK, must stop for lunch then resume list. If the sunshine holds, I think I'll do some weeding as well, as the weekend forecast looks pretty rainy.
Cheers,
f x2026's challenges: 1) To rebuild our Emergency Fund to at least £5k.
2) To read 50 books (12/50) 3) The Re-Shrinking of Foxgloves 8.1kg/30kg
Remember....if you have to put it on a credit card, extend your overdraft or take out a loan to buy whatever it is, you probably can't afford it, as that's not your money, it's somebody else's!0 -
Hello all,
Yet again some of your lists make me feel exhausted just reading them!
I am at work, earning and no spending today, breakfast at home, got a lift in and am just about to eat my packed lunch.
Put laundry in before I left and am hoping that hubbie (who is working from home) will have remembered to hang it out. Dry and very windy (that's the weather by the way) so perfect for it.
Got a letter from insurance company to say their assessor agrees that bike is a write off. Now we just need to see what their offer is (it was almost new
).
I need to get back on track with selling stuff - have done nothing for weeks so I will spend some time on that after work.
Need to make low cost plans for the summer holidays (having a week off work in August and don't want to end up doing jobs at home - again).
Hope you all have a good day x0 -
Good afternoon everyone, I have not been posting for the last few days, as I have been feeling under the weather. Although I am still not feeling right I thought I would sneak back in and try to get some motivation.

Hello, newbie here! Reading your posts put me to shame, working from home today so still in jammies!
My DFW things are accidental, but I realsied how much its probably saving! Have started a new job and am doing e-learning from home this week, my previous job involved at least 40miles round trip a day excluding any other pottering, so I reckon a big fuel save by the end of this week! Exciting!
Also as Im at home so no buying lunch which had become a very bad habit at my previous job, cost@, subw@y, b--ts etc all within walking distance and collegue pressure! Pleased to say I thought I would miss the calorie and cash rich food/drinks at cost@ but I dont!
I have also completed some surveys today so earn't a few pennies!
Hope you all have brilliant days!
