Mortgage Broker Recommendations

We applied directly for our mortgage with Natwest and had our offer agreed. However, it is about to expire as we haven't been able to complete due to problems with our chain.
The chain is back together again but my mortgage offer will not last. We have asked Natwest for an extension and they have said they could extend by three months subject to more bank statements and payslips and our case going back to the underwritters. I expect this time we will be assessed under MMR.
Looking back we should have consulted a whole market broker as we are hardly experts! If Natwest say no to the extension then we are going to see if broker can help us with a new offer.
How do we find a good mortgage broker? Should we look for somebody local or is it all done over the phone and email? Should we try and find a broker who has experience with our particular circumstances?
Our credit rating is good. We have stable and well paid jobs in the public sector.. We have a 23% deposit to put down but we do have a car loan and a couple of credit cards (which we will clear with some of the equity from selling our house). Our combined income is just over 95K and we are looking for a mortgage of £317K.
Thanks

I tend to use google for anything and this would be no different (if I were not a broker). Alternatively ask friends/family.
You got lucky with natwest I think. Their post MMR application has very minor differences... 4 extra questions.I am a Mortgage AdviserYou should note that this site doesn't check my status as a mortgage adviser, so you need to take my word for it. Try to get a persoanl recommendation from a friend or family member. Years ago I used a local broker but more recently I've done it all over the phone/email with one located further away and we've never met in person.0
