A timely reminder: Import Duty

Remember when entering international competitions, the prize may be great but if it's worth more than about £20.00 you will pay substantial import duty, so if you are not happy or able to pay it don't waste your time entering them.

I assume you didn't enter this one then, the duty percentage was not as high but at over £2,000 I doubt there was much value left in the prize given the mark up on jewellery.

(Royal Mail charge an £8 fee on top of any vat/duty that's what makes the cost such a high percentage on lower value items that are not exempt)

Incidentally, if you are entering an international comp, and you *think* it's based in the UK, check the terms carefully to make sure - they often say where the product will be sent from (the bigger the company offering the prize, the more likely they are to be able to dispatch it from the UK, even if the comp is based internationally).
