Yanks Ask Has London Gone Mad ?

A 1 bed flat compared with a 3 bed terrace? New York city prices are far higher than London. You can live on 5th Avenue for the same money!!!

If you read the blurb it's got a dining room that could be a second bedroom and it's in Manhattan on 5th Avenue rather than in Peckham.
What's the problem?
Remember Trotter's Independent Traders? New York, Paris, Peckham...0 -
Distance wise Peckham would be on the border of Manhattan..just. I'm sure the dining room in the terrace could be converted to another room. I'm 100% certain I could dig out some 1/2 bed flats next to Kings Cross/Euston that would be cheaper. If you read the blurb it's got a dining room that could be a second bedroom and it's in Manhattan on 5th Avenue rather than in Peckham.0 -

Probably.
The fact remains that if the NYT thinks this is absolute fricking lunacy and you can live in a beautiful 2 bed apartment overlooking Central Park for less:

then there's a reasonable chance that this is absolute fricking lunacy rather than par for the course.
I'd be more interested in people trying to defend an asking price of an amount of money that could see you retiring in comfort in almost all countries of the world rather than trying to pick holes.
As Manhattan is long and thin, I would imagine that Bromley to The City would fit into Manhattan.0 -

I suspect it will sell in Peckham too.0 -
I tend not to let cosmetic issues get in the way when I view a place. I would be surprised if they even had an effect on value. A cleanup can't hurt though...
Ditto. The house we live in was worse when we bought it....and we moved in and lived in it with a 6 and 8 year old. Actually, they did cry when they first got here! But overall it was great fun and it looked lovely 12 months later.....a big skip is what's required and lots of hands...and a reliable builder.0 -
It probably would! Going back to Kings Cross/Euston you would be overlooking Regents Park (unless you were on the other side of the building). It really depends where you look as there are extremes at either end that can be compared anywhere, even just within the UK.Probably.

So was mine. It even had minor damage to the sub floor in the bathroom which needed to be replaced due to the bathroom being flooded too often. Everything else was cosmetic and I didn't feel so bad about ripping things out and putting new bits in. Modernised and how I want it now.setmefree2 wrote: »Ditto.
