Baby Freezer Food - Suggestions Please

Hi All,

I'm hoping I can pick your brains with some suggestions (and recipes) for some food I can make and freeze for my little one.

He's 8 months, and we're doing baby led weaning so he can pretty eat anything we can bar honey, mercury high content fish and mould ripened cheeses, I want to keep refined sugar and salt to a minimum too.

I'm not struggling with main meals - he'll have whatever we have that night, but I am struggling with lunches/ snacks for him. I want him to eat well, but think he's getting a bit bored with chopped fruit/ veg. I'm also finding I throw a lot more out now as he never eats enough to finish a whole portion, so hoping I can change all of this with some clever freezer cooking. I thought I could also shove some at my husband as he runs out of the door in the morning, and save on his lunches too!

I was therefore hoping you could recommend some cheap and easy, but healthy recipes I can make in batches, pull out, defrost and feed him without having to cook/ heat again once defrosted (is that even possible?) A range of sweet and savoury would be great.

I've already got cheese scones on my list - I think I'd pull them out of the freezer and maybe toast with a bit of butter, which is nice and quick (but presume I could get away with not doing this if I happened to send a few with hubby for lunch?), and I've found a recipe for broccoli and cheese muffins along the same lines. I've tried googling but so many require sugar, and then just say can be frozen but don't tell me what I need to do with them when they defrost (sorry if a bit daft!)

Any recommendations (ideally with recipes) would be amazing.
Thanks in advance :D
Thank you to all the compers!

Thanks Pigpen - do yours have pasta/ fish fingers/ sausages etc for lunch in addition to a main meal? I've been giving him breakfast, lunch and then a main meal early evening (and now we're introducing snacks twice a day too). But it's lunch and the snacks I'm struggling with - I've never been much of a lunch eater so I'm really uninspired, and struggling to find time to prepare food during the day as he's pretty high needs. No idea how I'll manage when I go back to work in 9 weeks time!

I just thought if I could have some bits ready prepared in the freezer all I'd need to do would be pull them out individually in the morning and then they're all ready during the day...
Thank you to all the compers!

    yes quite often they do.

Sometimes they have sandwich, fruit and others they have pasta.. which sometimes I have ready cooked in the fridge with bits of sliced sausage, or chicken or veggies in. Other days they want other stuff, a couple of oven chips 4 or 5, with a couple of fish fingers or a few chicken dippers/goujons.. and other days they will just have whatever was left over night before.

I avoid salad leaves which they might choke on but anything else is game.

Mine has breakfast, 1 Weetabix, a banana or few slices of apple or chopped grapes, she chokes on full ones and maybe a yoghurt or 10 fig rolls at the moment ;) sometimes toast and she loves having a few bits of dry cereal she can pick up and crunch.

Lunch they will have either something small and cooked or sandwiches and fruit or pasta and slices of ham or chicken.

Dinner they have whatever we have.. be that freezer crap, a roast, whatever, mine loves mince and mash.. she splats it dead then eats it all.. it is VERY messy but she loves it. Followed by yoghurts or cake or whatever we have in. So it is more substantial than lunch. tonight she is having precooked meatballs and spaghetti.

Supper is porridge or Weetabix with fruit puree

In between she will have a rusk or biscuit or more fruit or fig rolls ;) or yoghurts.. She is bit of a bin!
