Not only could it be a selling scam, it might also be one of those extortionate-amount-of-money-per-minute scams, whereby if you did press 1 to hear further information, you are charged £5, £10 or even £20 a minute for the pleasure. ("£20 a minute?!" I hear you cry. Well, it's been known...)

I'm not saying that's what it is, but it's possible :undecided

No fear of that, at least in the U.K.

Our phone system is regulated and won't allow that sort of charging unless you
A: Ring them up yourself, in which case it's a max of £1.50 a minute
B: Press 1 and give them your CC/Debit card number and they bill that ;)

The maximum call cost is set by oftel (or are they ictiss now?), and you can not be charged for a call another person initiates unless you have accepted a reverse charge call, in which case the call cost is regulated again.

    Hi

This breaks all sorts of regualtions. Please could one of you try to find out the number that rang you?

I've just had this too and started another thread as I didn't find this one.

I've got the number what should I do with it?

We're also on the telephone preference service thingy so broke that rule too!
