When should it end

Options
Hi everyone ,

My daughter is coming uo to 19 years old and i lover her very much and have constant visits with her weekly , We have a great relationship, The problem is that her mother ( my ex wife ) says that i should pay until she is 20 years old, My daughter works in mcdonalds part time and goes to college part time , she also receives EMA as her mother fiddles down the local cash and carry and so gets benefits ,

What im after is some advice to what to do , I think her mother is taking advantage of me with the csa payments , im not on amazing money myself and have never missed a payment in 17 years but its a lot of money every month that my ex wife seems to want to take it until she cant get any more money out of me

Thanks

Your ex wife is correct. Child support can now continue until your daughter is 20. See this link for further detailshttps://www.gov.uk/when-child-maintenance-payments-stop
  • but with the fact that she's working and claiming i think shes taking the mikey a bit :-(

Your child is entitled to a part time job. All the time your ex wife is able to claim child benefit for her, the you will be liable for CM.

Is your case through the CSA?

Child benefit is payable if the child is in non advanced education - like NVQ courses and apprenticeship type jobs. If Child Benefit is being paid then you will have to pay CSA. CB usually ends in the August if the PWC is no longer entitled to it. Talk to the CSA and tell them you believe that Child Benefit is no longer being paid if you believe it to be the case, and they can check. If the PWC is no longer getting child benefit then you will no longer have to pay CSA to the PWC. We suspected our PWC was claiming CSA when not entitled and when the CSA checked on the CB after our request the case was closed for that child.
