Mortgage application

Options
Hi, I'm looking for a little advice. My partner and I are looking to get a mortgage on a 170k house - we have 15% deposit and are first time buyers.

I have checked my credit score and I have a default from 4yrs ago off Next for the amount of £28. I was In between addresses at the time (uni) and when I realised I owed them money I paid straight away.

I've tried speaking to next and they have no details of the account ever existing to even attempt to fix the credit file.

Is this likely to affect our mortgage application? Apart from this one default our credit files are perfect! My partners experian score is 999! We've found a great rate with the post office but don't know whether we will be refused because of that one mark from 4 years ago.

Has anyone been successful in securing a mortgage with the post office with this kind of default?

I have no idea if they will accept you or not, it will depend on your application. It does appear to fit the criteria for it to not be an outright decline though.

Thanks for the link! I hadn't seen that criteria before now.

I'm in the process of disputing the default via credit expert (they're contacting next on my behalf seeing as how my account can't be found!) which can take around a week for a response.

Hopefully this works, if not we will just have to give it a shot anyway so I'll be sure to post back.

    Thanks again.

Incase anyone is in the same position, we have just had our mortgage offer in the post! I've also managed to get the default removed from my credit score!

    Happy faces all round!
