Butter in freezer for 2 years....

Okay. I have a number of things in my freezer...

butter ... been in there for 2 years... a couple blocks..
pork roast... in there for over a year... sealed in zip seal bag
fish... purchased over a year ago, still in sealed store bag (not vacuum sealed, but still sealed bag)

Still okay? I've heard that it's mostly quality of food affected, rather than it going bad... is that correct?
Saving, decluttering and doing alright.

We would eat them. No problem.
I used to be indecisive but now I am not sure.

I probably wouldn't use the butter for spreading on my sandwiches, or cakes (they can pick up funny smells in the freezer), but would have no qualms about using it as a cooking oil in a dish such as this http://www.bbcgoodfood.com/recipes/1794/garlicky-fondant-potatoes

Thanks. I may try it on toast myself, and as long as no funny flavour to it, then I'll use it in cakes.

Frozen food remains safe indefinitely. Any dates for freezer storage are for quality only.
If you fold it in half, will an Audi A4 fit in a Citroen C5? :)

If you're worried about eating it yourself Penny just feed it to your OH, but make sure his life insurance is up todate first.

You have butter that is two years old? I buy at least 8 blocks a month and that's only because I ration it. Butter doesnt last 2 minutes in our house. I didnt even see the point of freezing it.

I bought it specifically to use for baking, then things happened and I didn't get the chance to use them. I tossed them in the freezer so they didn't go bad, and forgot they were in there. I've run across them here and there doing inventory of freezer, but tended to just toss them back in, make note they were there, and put it out of my mind again.

Dealing with a load of things over the last year or two, I guess it got pushed down the priority list.

The butter will be absolutely fine. The texture might appear to be a bit grainy but frozen food lasts for years. The fish might have dried out a bit if it wasn't vacuum sealed, and the same might be true of the meat. I kept shoving a whoopsied lump of beef to the back of the meat drawer for several years because it was too big for the two of us but couldn't trust myself to cook it well enough to feed a host of people. In the end I braised it and it was meltingly fabulous. Try the port in a slow cooker if you think it's gone a bit dry, and Pigpen's suggestion of fishcakes would be my first choice for the fish.
    Better is good enough.

Yes I too would eat almost anything from the freezer. Its in a 'suspended animation state ' I've yet to bin anything I have frozen and my frozen stuff can linger if forgotten at the back of the freezer.
