Managing with Cash?

Hi all,

I have found along my journey that I am an absolute terror if I have any form of card on me, debit, credit, store. If it is on plastic, it doesn't feel like real money. While I appreciate the value of direct debits, I think that I would be better behaved with my spending if I used only cash.

So, DFWs, I am after some tips on managing this. Do you take cash out on payday for the full month or weekly, and how do you divide this up etc? Any tips would be great :) x
I have enough money for the rest of my life... as long as I never have to pay for anything again!

I also only use cash except for dd and standing orders. I have 3 accouts. My current account is just for debt and bill payments. I work out how much is left and transfer this into another account which I withdraw as cash when I need it and anything left at the end of the month I put into an ISA account for an emergency fund. Doing this I no longer go overdrawn or have to borrow any more money.

Don't do credit or store cards, only use my debt card or cash.
I try not to take the debt card out to often, as I, like you, tend to overspend on it, all too easy if you ask me.
I transfer some to a savings account, then draw out all my cash every month if I can, and just use that, apart from DD`s etc.

I'm a bit of a Luddite. I use my debit card to buy petrol, my credit card if I need to order things on the internet or go abroad but for most things I use cash. I just withdraw cash as I need it, usually a set amount once a week.

The girl in the bank thought I was mad when I explained that I preferred using cash because I could see how much I had and could look at it and see how much money I had left whereas with plastic you couldn't tell. :rotfl:So you're not alone.
