Been boiling an egg for an hour.......

Will it still be edible???

I was boiling an egg for my dd's packed lunch tomorrow and totally forgot about it!

The pan has boiled dry so i've taken the egg out and put it into cold water to cool down but I don't know if it will be okay to eat?!

What do you guys thinks?! Cheese sandwich maybe?!

Thanks

    Crack it open,
If it still looks and smells fresh then it will be ok.
Sometimes if left without enough water they will start to burn the white inside the shell, but if when opened it is unburnt it will be perfectly fine to use xx
I remember once shouting up to my husband asking when he thought his eggs would be ready, he replied 'why'?
I said because he was boiling a pan of water and had forgot to put the eggs in it might take a while!

    What are men like?!

i was convinced i'd turned the cooker off!! obviously not!

But crisis has been averted. I've peeled the egg and apart from a slight burnt spot (where is was in direct contact with the pan!) the egg is fine! I had a taste and it seems ok!

Will set the timer next time!

If it looks edible it probably is, but it sounds like a prime candidate for making an egg mayonnaise sandwich...
Hurrah, now I have more thankings than postings, cheers everyone!

Many years ago when I first got married I actually blew a boiled egg up. Our cooker in our grotty flat in Nunhead was situated out on the landing and I had foogotten all about my egg in the saucepan .I was in the sitting room and I suddenly heard this very loud noise . Went to the door and as I stepped out I found that most of the egg was splattered all over the ceiling .It took me many years to live that down .The egg pan was almost white-hot and what was left of the egg still in the pan was burnt !! luckily for my poor husband I did improve my cooking skills .I was only 18 at the time and very green when it came to cooking .He went out and bought me a cookery book called 'Cooking for Two' It cost 2/6 and I still have it to this day.It was the first of many cooking books that I have collected over the years .If I were you to be on the safe side I would bin it .

Me too,it was in the days of polystyrene ceiling tiles,I got talking to my neighbour and heard a loud bang, ran into the house and 4 hardboiled eggs were stuck or rather shot into the ceiling tiles, all over the walls everywhere.I had three small children at the time and still feel sick at the thought of what could of happened if they had been in the room at the time.

We had a power cut, when the power came back on we had gone out. On return not only had the eggs blown up the base of the pan which was a laminate of stainless steel and aluminium had separated.

I managed to blow up a microwave once! I was sterilising baby bottles and overdid the timing. Somehow the excess steam caused a short circuit and there was almighty boom! Thankfully I wasn't in the kitchen at the time and it didn't catch fire though it did smell.

  • I have blown up a few boiled eggs too. The trouble is you don't always hang about in the kitchen for the 10 mins it takes , but get distracted.
