How to protect myself when selling online?

I've only ever sold a few bits and bobs online, most have been to people I know or collection in person.

However I currently have someone interested in an item I have for sale who would like me to shop it. I've got a quote from a courier and the buyer is happy with the price, however how do I make sure I get paid?

I've heard horror stories about people selling on eBay and then the buyer disputing the item and reversing PayPal charges. Can this happen just with PayPal or only if selling on eBay?

Thanks in advance

The rules for PayPal seller protection are the same whether it is used on eBay or any other sale.

There is a sticky postage thread which explains how to stay safe, but always remember as well to check your item is 'Allowed' as couriers tend to have a lot of restrictions
