This is an “over the garden fence” type thread where we chat about everything Old Style and maybe a little bit more. It’s a great, inspiring and motivating thread we start each day to discuss what Old Style things we’re going to do today or what we’ve achieved already. Everyone’s welcome, please do come in, put your feet up (although check the fence hasn’t just been painted first!) and join us for an Old Style natter. The more the merrier!
As this is the Old Style Board, it would be appreciated if posts could include some Old Style content. Please be aware that many people may have small screens, or slow internet connections, so please don’t post large pictures, or clip art – links are preferred. When you make a post, if you feel like giving it a title, that will help others that don’t have the time to read everything skim through the thread quickly but if not it's not a problem. Please do not start a new daily thread before you go to bed at night because this often leaves things confusing with two daily threads live at the same time. The idea is that a member would start each new daily thread after they get up in the morning.
Some people who chat here like to try to answer everyone. Don’t feel you have to though, a general “hi everyone, hope everyone’s well” is fine.

Morning TTFM and all who follow
Raining here ATM hope it stops as I've got bedding in the washer , should have done it yesterday when it was warm and breezy
Feeling a lot better re my toothache , the pain has gone and it's healing nicely, still eating soft foods though just in case.
We are going to pick dd1 up from Manchester airport tomorrow and not sure how we are going to get there as the Tour de France passes very close to us and all the roads will be closed , even our road is closed . It seems roads in Glossop are closed too . I hope DH can think of a way through
Having my hair cut this morning , I haven't been for ages I look like a mop head
Not doing so well with all things OS, my vegetable plants that were almost ready to plant out are practically dead as I forgot about them with the dental fiasco. I'm trying to revive them but it's not looking good
On the plus side I managed to knock around £15 off my shopping bill with some coupons I had :j. I hardly get any coupons ( except t3sco ones) these days but was given a few and I worked my meal plan around them :T. I've been watching an American programme called extreme couponing, where they go into the supermarket and buy several hundred dollars worth of stuff and pay only a few dollars as they have hundreds of coupons . Wish we could do that here
Need to have a clean up today and get dd1s room ready for her coming back , one end of her room is piled high with uni stuff , I'm going to leave that for her to do
Have a good day everyone xx0 -
Morning everyone, dull here still after overnight rain but not a lot cooler than yesterday which makes sleeping difficult so we were up just after 5.30 wide awake and made tea.
I'm off to the local village hall this morning for our Sea Scouts Jumble Sale. They happen every couple of months and are a really good recycling medium for the whole village. How it works is the scouts put through a flyer to every house a week before the sale is due and on the Friday evening before the sale on Saturday they come right round the village with landrovers and trailers and collect the donations that people put out on the end of thier drives. Then on Saturday morning we all queue up and buy someone elses unneeded treasures. It works very well particularly with books and I usually get a turn to buy, read and return whatever it is I need. It makes a good income for the sea scouts which pays for the hire of the hall for thier meetings, it keeps so much from landfill and it allows us to buy things in and return them for resale when our use of them is finished, really good!!!
Have a good and happy day everyone, Lyn xxx.0 -

Morning everyone
Birthday wishes to those celebrating a birthday, hope you have a great day x
Hugs and get well wishes to those that want/need them.
DH, DS2 and myself now awake and enjoying first cuppa’s of the day. DS1 still in his pit. Have got up this morning and what I thought has been hayfever seems to be a cold, my voice is nearly gone but I haven’t got a sore throat, just keep sneezing and when I take antihistamines the symptoms disappear, I don’t feel ill in anyway – so will just keep taking the tabs and see what happens.
Now light, cloudy and overcast but still quite warm and raining continuously, it started whilst we were out last night a few spots, then stopped. Our friends had dinner at ours, we went to the caravan meeting, did what needed to be done, then they came back to ours for a coffee and dessert (as we hadn’t had time straight after dinner before we needed to go out, by the time they left, which was gone 11pm it was raining steadily. It’s such a shame as it’s our town’s festival at the moment it finishes today with a parade of floats through the town centre.
Dinner last night was a big salad, with an assortment of meats, scotch eggs, pork pie, salads, hot new potatoes, and I made a big bowl of coleslaw – it was a recipe 1 of my sis’s used when we all got together at mum’s over Xmas and it was really nice – I didn’t use the exact ingredients as I didn’t have everything but adapted it to use what I had, and it was delicious and our friends both said how nice it was. I made a really big bowl full, and only used 4 decent sized carrots, half a white cabbage, 4 spring onions, mayo, extra virgin olive oil, white wine vinegar and wholegrain mustard. The recipe is carrots, red cabbage and celeriac and Dijon mustard. Strawberries and cream for dessert. I have quite a good amount of leftovers of everything in the fridge so will be utilising them over this weekend, so nothing gets thrown away, today I do need to go to SM to get some bread and condensed milk as I bought a small tray of strawberries and although we did have some last night there’s still loads left and we won’t be throwing them away. Because of the quantity of leftovers I will need to jiggle the menu a bit but I don’t want to adjust things too much so we end up eating loads for a couple of days then other stuff goes out of date before we’ve got to eat it! Fridge tetris springs to mind! I spent an absolute fortune on the food shopping yesterday – I now completely know why I don’t do my main food shopping in the big SM’s anymore, admittedly I spent a lot on buying some nice meat etc from the deli which I asked the assistant to carve fresh for me for last nights’ dinner. I also bought extra deodorant for the boys, as the brand they like is currently on offer, I have stocked DH up on his over the last few weeks whilst that was on BOGOF and will do the same for the boys – all the menfolk in this house seem to get through loads of deo. DS2 is now in the shower, and when I go upstairs it will smell like a tarts’ boudoir! But I’d rather that than them being dirty!
Today we have a few jobs to do, firstly going to the caravan to take back chairs and a couple of items that got brought home. We’ll go and see both sets of parents too and we need to visit some friends to give them some money as they’ve bought some tickets for an open air concert that we’re all going to whilst we’re away on our hols in a few weeks – hoping it’ll be a good night and dry!
Will only need to water the greenhouse as everything else is getting a good soaking.
Have a good Saturday x
Keep safe and well x

Morning all,
Been raining all night its stopped now but sky still looks grey, have got some washing in the wm so will risk hanging it out for a while.
Have had a nice letter from the gas / elec company saying our payment is to high and that they will put the dd down and refund us £100 :T good news !
Beth is that window washer thing worth the money ? I have been debating about buying one as I cant seem to get our windows really clean, what model did you buy ?
Need to nip to the shop to buy a big block of their mature cheddar its really tasty and a good price, they also have Bonne Maman jam for £1 atm so will stock up on a few jars.
Not sure whats for dinner will go and check the freezer after this, have good days all xx0 -
Good morning everyone
Lovely day here and the washing is blowing nicely on the line, with the beds stripped and that now in the machine.
Can someone please tell me when we became the USA? And when did prom parties become the norm, especially for 11 year olds leaving primary school? My GDD thinks a prom dress from one of the most expensive shops in town is going to be hers and she is in for a shock. She also wants to know why she can't have a limo like some of her 11 year old friends are having to take them to the prom. Sorry if I sound like a party pooper but this is just absolutely ridiculous, do schools not realise the position they put parents in and the pressure on children to compete in this monstrosity of excess?
So I am off to meet DD and GDD to break the news to GDD that she is not getting a £150 dress and matching accessories and she will be walking to the prom, in whatever nice outfit we can find at a reasonable price and can be worn again for Summer parties etc.
Sorry for continued rant but I am raging, she has only been at the school for 6 weeks but I am told this is now the norm at lots of primary schools and parents already have the expense of getting everything to start high school in a few weeks time
OK I really have stopped now .... and breathe!
Well wishes for all sick people and pets and hugs for those that need or just want them. Keep well and safe and have a lovely day.

Morning all
I've been reading along but haven't posted much this week, haven't blogged & didn't manage any writing for the Light & Shade challenge either, it's been a long hard week, must try harder.
Lovely to see you Cranky & Beth.
LW hope you get/got on alright with you new boarder, Mrs LW, I hope Docky is ok.
Hugs to Molly & Hilly.
It was DD1's b'day last week, I emailed some photo's of her dogs to a 'MSE'r' on face book who painted the most amazing watercolour, captured the dogs perfectly & DD1 was delighted with it.
Hubby's been fed & dropped at work, DD2 has been collected from home & dropped at work, car interior has been cleaned, fish fed, WM going, DW finished, bed stripped & windows opened, plants watered, it rained overnight, but some plants are under cover.
I've been to the butchers to buy some sausages & to the baker for bread rolls, I need to do some ironing & vacuum through.
I've bought a new to me car, I'm collecting it on Wednesday after work, I need to get an insurance quote, hopefully it won't be too expensive as the car has a 1.6 engine & my current batmobile has a 2l. I'm selling it to DD2 for £1 once I've had some repairs done to it.
Work is still carp, I'm now in trouble for 'getting defensive' about my appraisal & 'taking it personally' !!!!!!, how can I not take it personally. Having said that, what with MIL being ill, hubby's team being short staffed, him working way too hard & laying awake worrying about his work & me trying to support him even the Head noticed I'm not well & sent someone down to ask if I was ok! It's stupid things like when we went to look at a new car we drove to the showroom, started looking at cars, hubby's phone rang, there was an event due to start in half an hour & no one could close the curtains, so we had to drive back to sort out the problem, the next night there was a call about a lost phone, the next night a missing child (he didn't mind sorting this out, obviously) the child had gone to the park with friends & forgotten to tell mum!
I'll stop whinging & whining now!
Have a good day everyone.
Hugs HesterChin up, Titus out.0 -
Morning all,
Warm but drizzly here. Been to Aldi and washing on the line. Not much planned for today. Might bake some cakes.
TTFTM - Are you on FB? We have a local 'Wedding and Prom' selling page. You can get dresses for less than £20 and various accessories. Might be worth a look if you are.
Have a good day all0 -
Morning all, a nice cool breezy day here today
Housework is all done, just waiting for DH to get back then I'm off to Morrisons to spend another 4 x£5 vouchers on fruit and veg, we went on Thursday evening with 2 of the vouchers and bought Apricots for jam strawberry's apples & bananas to dry in dehydrator to add to cereal over the next few months, today I think we will stock up on veg for the freezer.
Hope you all have a lovely day xG.C July £21.09/£1000 -
Afternoon all,
hubby is home. The hospital only kept him in 8 hours and he came home to sleep off the effects of the general anaesthetic. He's grumpy and moaning a lot and I'm tired.
Onwards and forwards,
