Natwest Basic Account

I have a Natwest Basic account, I went BR on 26th June. I owe no money to RBS/Natwest so both the OR and Natwest were happy for me to keep my account open. Just thought I'd let you guys know as it has Internet banking facilities.

  • I had a natwest basic account and had never owed them a penny. I went bankrupt on Wednesday, by Sunday they had blocked my internet and Tuesday I got a letter to say my account had been closed.

Hopefully yours will stay open but it's not always the case.

I spoke to the creation department (or something similar of that name) who said it was the OR's decision. The OR in my case was writing to them to say they were happy for me to continue to use the account.

The decision is first of all whether the OR is happy to let the bank keep that account open, then it is the bank's decision on whether they will actually do that.

Natwest have a nasty habit of promising to keep accounts open, then going back on it and closing them without notice.

Hopefully that won't happen here, but be aware they might, no matter what you have been told.
