Hi
We're organising a surprise party and we've been offered the opportunity to go to Costco to get stuff for the party.
I'm not that familiar with Costco. Is there anything you'd recommend from Costco thats cheaper than Tesco's etc ?
Thanks

TBH I have done 3 parties recently and it depends on what you are after if your after cheap and plentyfull for quite a lot of guests.... ready cooked saus roll's ,chicken potions saus ect I found Asda by far the best value
If you are after special items on a higher budjet eg best quality cooked meats ,frozen mini cakes (yummy), yummy prepared salads with cray fish tails ect then costco is fab and also do really big birthday cakes for £9.99 which are fab
HTH ... got the munchies now0 -
I second the birthday cakes, absolutely huge and soo yummy all for a tenner.
There is some good stuff at Costco for parties so I would go and have a wander round if it isn't too far although it isn't as cheap as ASDA.

Danish pastries and muffins are a good price. The dips (humous, tatziki, garlic and herb, etc) are lovely but we have found the taramasolata to not been nice so won't buy that now. The quiches are not bad either! My second favorite household chore is ironing. My Costco has Helium Balloon Cannisters + Balloons, enough to fill 50, for £17.xx + vat.
In comparrison, Asda do something like enough for 30 at £19.xx ish!
A bargain in my experience!
(also, the disposable plates, cutlery, salad bowls etc are really good quality. Much better than anywhere else, even if slightly more expensive!makinprogress0 -
Hi
Thanks everyone.
What are they like for beer, wine & soft drinks ?0 -
For beer and wine I would suggest lidl, netto and aldi specials. If you can get a makro card then they have specials as well.
HHHHHMMMMMMMMM, Costco muffins, danish pastries and the fudge cake you cant beat them.0 -
Costco would, without a doubt, be my first stop if I was catering for a party buffet and wanted to do it very easily. Everything is good quality and comes in party size packs so it would simply be a matter of opening the packs and putting it on a platters (they even do the platters and all the sundries you'll need).
For convenience you won't do better. You might do some of it a bit cheaper going to the supermarkets but it will be more effort. However, I've found that when you actually compare costs on the quantity you're getting with Costco, it isn't a lot different. (I was initially shocked at the cost of tin foil, for example, but then realised it was more than three times the amount you get in Aldi and worked out much the same price). You have to compare size for size and quality for quality when you're shopping at Costco.
I've reached a point when I tend to cost in my time (and stress on my nerves!) on these things and like a happy balance between moneysaving and timesaving! If you feel the same, and if you want the ease of 'one trip, one shop' go to Costco. It's worth going anyway as it's a bit of an experience the first time for some of the 'only seen in America' products.
Have a good party.

PS If you want a big personalised cake you'll have to order it - but they're only about £10!0
