I am about to throw away a new shower mat, but thought I'd ask on here first in case anyone here has any ideas..
I bought this mat from BHS the other day only to find it has a really unpleasant rubbery smell!
http://www.sabichi.co.uk/pvc-bathmat-oval-blue.html
I've tried rinsing it, which didn't do anything, then I tried soaking it under water with some white vinegar added and then rinsing it again, and just letting it air dry, but the strong rubbery smell is still there.
I'm going to have to chuck it if I can't get rid of the smell, as it's making my bathroom honk to high heaven! Any idea if or how I can get rid of the pvc/rubber smell?
I've never known a new bath-mat stink like this. If I need to get a replacement one I'll make sure to sniff it in the shop before I buy it :rotfl:

Leave in in the garden for a few hours?
Baking powder gets rid of smells. The secret to success is making very small, yet constant changes.:)0 -
If it's PVC its off-gassing chemicals. I had to chuck some PVC pouches which were made for keeping supplies dry inside rucksacks because of this. The reek just didn't lessen and it made me feel ill.
I'd take it back to the store and try getting a refund and hopefully replace it with a non-PVC product. HTH.Every increased possession loads us with a new weariness.

They all stink!!
The pong does fade after a week or 3.. especially if you wash often
Put in the plug and cover it with water for a few days, between washings, it will fade, in the meantime open the window to air the room!
Our shower gets used loads and my Ikea mats smelled for about 3 weeks.. it's only a smell, it doesn't damage anything.LB moment 10/06 Debt Free date 6/6/14Hope to be debt free until the day I dieMortgage-free Wannabee (05/08/30)6/6/14 £72,454.65 (5.65% int.)08/12/2023 £33602.00 (4.81% int.)0 -
Ha! This reminded me of the mats I bought for my car. It took literally years for the smell to go. Take it back0
