I wish they'd do that down here. Kind of fed up of waiting for someone to find their purse and find the right change to pay the driver.Sealed pot challenge #232. Gold stars from Sue-UU - :staradmin :staradmin £75.29 banked

Time to roll out oyster nationwide. Its faster, safer and more convenient.0

Why wouldn't you get an oyster card? You get the money back for the deposit on just 2 single journeys on the tube. Single tube fare is £4.70. Single tube fare in Zone 1 with Oyster is £2.20, i.e. £2.50 less. Deposit for Oyster is £5.
Get the card at the first opportunity as soon as you arrive in London, probably an Underground Station, but there are all sorts of other places.
If you have a National Rail card, register that on the Oyster and get a third of off-peak train and tube trips.0 -
I've managed to survive 30 odd years avoiding London, this is just another reason to maintain that stance. Well, that and not being able to speak the language - arabic is the official lingua franca of Londonistan is it not?
How freaking ignorant... If you're implying that there are a lot of Muslims there, then most Muslims are going to be either Pakistani/Bengali, who either speak punjabi/bengali/urdu or or or or... English....0 -
It would be great if they rolled this out into other cities in the UK...0

Please forgive me for being thick but how would one for example make a single bus journey from say Euston to Paddington without an Oyster Card or Contactless Payment Card. Can you buy tickets at tube stations?0

You could not make such a journey without an Oyster card or a contactless card or a valid travelcard of some description.
You can get an Oyster card or a travelcard at a tube station but not a bus ticket.
The cheapest solution is to get an Oyster card, make the journey and return the Oyster at Paddington. Cost - £5 deposit (refundable) plus the fare0 -

Thank you for replying, they do seem to want to make things difficult.0 -
Difficult? No, they want to make it easier for the 95%+ of travellers who use Oyster or contactless cards.
I must have wasted weeks of my life over the years waiting for London bus drivers to process cash fares: it's an anachronism that most European cities got rid of decades ago.No free lunch, and no free laptop0 -
