documents requested which we dont have!

Options
We have had a DIP from Abbey Help to Buy scheme mortgage and everything was going swimmingly.
Took our documents in to mortgage advisor who was quite happy. we have now had a conversation with mortgage advisor telling us that we need to supply further documents. That husbands ILR stamp in his passport is not enough and we need to send through the letter which we received when we got his ILR. We had no letter sent just his passport however we were told we could get a copy from HO or UKBA. I've spoken to both HO and UKBA and they don't supply letters as husbands passport is valid, his stamp is the legal true document.
I realise this is quite an unusual situation but has anyone had experience of this, if so how was it resolved?
Thanks

Tell your broker if you have one, if you dont call Abbey and see what they say.

I have never dealt with abbey so no idea what they are like but most lenders will tend to work with you in order to satisfy their requirements.

Very surprising if a letter wasn't issued at the outset.
  • Will HO/UKBA give you some kind of letter to state that the ILR stamp is all there is/is valid, maybe, as a work around?

And for those of you who, like me, haven't the foggiest idea what 'ILR' means, I assume it means 'indefinite leave to remain' (searched for it on Google).
  • We're in the process of applying for a mortgage with Abbey and I have an ILR visa. They didn't ask me for a letter, and, like you, I wouldn't have had one available. I don't remember being issued with one. The ILR visa can be confusing to people who aren't familiar with looking at them because they appear to have an expiry date, which is actually just the date of expiry of the passport. That date is actually the deadline for FIRST entering the UL on the visa, not an expiry of ILR, which is ummm...indefintite. My passport that contains the ILR visa stamp is now expired, so I submitted both my current passport, the expired passport with visa and a note explaining all this. No questions were asked.

    Thank you for your responses.
Not sure how to proceed with this as IMA is now on annual leave and no-one in his office seems to know much about anything.
We've double checked our papers and there is definetly no letter, it was well over 5 years ago so you begin to doubt your recall!
Just really worried that this delay will end up with us losing our future home
