Earnings too small to pay NI

I don't think you would qualify for contribution based ESA. As your husband is being treated for cancer it might be an idea to contact Macmillan. Does he have a Macmillan nurse? If not, you can ring their helpline and they'd be able to give you benefit advice based on your circumstances as a couple. Other than that I would suggest CAB but it seems you've already been to them? HTH0

I am so confused by all this. I thank you all for taking time to lead me in the right direction. I have spoken to CAB and they said I don't qualify for benefits.
I was always under the impression that at earnings of between £50 and £60 a week, the NI payment would have been credited.
My husband only gets his works pension, as he took early retirement a while ago. He is being treat for Bladder Cancer at the moment. He does not pay NI either.
I am now feeling a bit worried.
As JezR says, the current lower earnings limit for an NI credit is £111 a week
You can apply to HMRC to get a year by year statement of your NI contributions so far which will show you which years will and will count towards any state pension
