I think it also depends on what you class as a supermarket? I have a big Sainsbury's 8 mins walk away and can carry shopping home, further afield there are tescos, Morissons, Iceland and farm foods, all walking distance to get to but anymore than a couple of carrier bags/rucksack require a taxi home (no bus stop close by)which often cancels out the savings :(
I pretty much shop at Sainsbury's and occasionally Iceland when I get it delivered for free if the freezers looking empty so 1 or 2 perhaps
:hello: Hiya, I'm single mom, avid moneysaver and freecycler, sometimes  but definatly :D

    Four.
For myself I consider anything more than 20 minutes not worth the trip unless doing something else in that area. Though this is for general shopping - I don't temd to go specifically for timed bargain stickers but do look at the reduced items when there.
I am quite lucky (if that's the word for it). One supermarket five minutes walk away. Another two are a ten/fifteen minute drive. Then the furthest is 20 minutes acroos town. Luckily these are my Mum's local shops so i can visit and take her shopping at the same time i do mine - helps that its an Aldi too so thats my discount shopping!
    Back on the trains again!

I have often thought the large superstore should be built in rural area's.

Less effect on high streets and improve rural areas economy.

People will travel to the large stores anyway. (some people live in towns and are used to having superstores at there front door, but if they were not there they would use the high street)

Meaningless poll the way it has been worded TBH.

If you put a superstore in a rural area then it ceases to be a rural area. Coupled with which then the roads have to be upgraded to take the hundreds or thousands of vehicles a day that it would generate.

Of course the follow up will be that the rural patch left between the superstore and the town/city will then get infilled with housing/business estates.

I have 4 supermarkets within 1 mile of my house. Costco & Blakemores are within 5-6 miles. I use all of them depending on what I need.

I refuse to shop where there is noisy musak so I ignore our nearest ones - all Co-ops where they are tuned into a torture-chamber where a woman is having horrible things done to her! Ditto Morrisons
Instead I drive 7 miles to Aldi and use others when passing by.
I notice that the ones which are doing ok are the ones which leave us in peace to browse, shop and spend!

So when it comes to money-saving they are very hit-and-miss.
I included them in my number of 7 but would never use them for a week's shop. Did the questionnaire mean what I call superstores?
  • I have a Tesco and Aldi just over 1 mile away in one direction, and Asda & LIDL a similar distance in almost the opposite direction, with Morrison's a mile past them. Sainsbury's are about 5 miles away, so I don't go there.
There used to be a Netto, too; that would be my first stop, until their prices started following Tesco's hikes, and they shut.
I looked forward to Asda coming, but they just price-matched Tesco and Morrison's, so I hardly ever go there.
Most "brands" now cost double what they did in 2008, so I was forced to switch, and won't go back, even if prices dropped 30%

There is an M&S with a food hall (small), Morrisons, Iceland and Co-op, all a 5 min walk away from us. Lidl is a 10 min walk and Sainsbury's a 15 minute walk. Aldi is a 10 minute drive and Tesco a 25 minute drive. Come 2017 Asda will be a 5 minute walk too. I use Lidl, Aldi, Iceland and Morrisons for stuff I can't buy in Lidl and Aldi. I only ever used Tesco on line as I can't drive, but the amount of food I was getting for my budget kept decreasing so I switched to Aldi and Lidl.
