Has anyone been sacked here? If so did you get another job quickly? Also want did you say to future employer? Also if you got sacked from the civil service could you try again with another department or do they talk to one another?

Yes, but because my skills, at the time, were in very short supply, I secured a job the following week.
I was up front and honest - telling the interviewer I could not stand the boss, explained why, and told them I thought he was a pillock - those words exactly.

Yes- I got sacked at 9.30 am, and I started a new job within two days. The first time I was sacked I was about to go to uni so I wasn't too bothered (however it did make me laugh to hear later that the bloke who sacked me had been fired himself for er 'misuse of power' basically he had sacked loads of people and had no authority to
I was glad. The bloke was a grade A idiot. I did get an apology after he accused me of lying that I looked after my Mum and Dad. He said that there was nothing wrong with them and if there was I wouldn't mind providing consultants letters and bank statements for them  he got a letter alright- from my Dad's solicitor and he was forced to phone them and apologise! My Dad gave him a right old mouthful of abuse (polite abuse mind) but it's certainly not been the end of my career.

It depends on why you were sacked - must be something pretty bad to get dismissed from the CS.
(Have you actually started the CS job yet?)0 -

Long, long gone are the days when the CS would carry "passengers". Over 10 years ago non-performers and poor attendees were being dismissed from the CS.
I've worked with a least 4 people who had their employment with the CS terminated, none had their fingers in the till, fiddled expenses, swore at or were rude to members of the public. If you are querying your Council Tax band would you please state whether you are in England, Scotland or Wales0 -

My experiences are very different, and very recent. I guess it varies between departments0 -
I have been dismissed twice in my working history and both for "Gross Misconduct" although the 2nd one I did dispute but lost my job anyway! I am working. In fact I am just about to make a post re my new job and NI contributions. Employers look at the quality of the person and not past misdemeaners (spell check), in fact, even if you need a reference from your previous employer they are not allowed to give you a bad one. No getting sacked isn't the end of your career.0

Certainly up to about 15 years ago, it took a very, very long time (if ever) to dismiss someone from the CS. But after that time HMRC and its executive agencies showed no reluctance in terminating employment. One of these cases was only about 3 years ago (he would be the 5th I worked with)If you are querying your Council Tax band would you please state whether you are in England, Scotland or Wales0 -

This isn't true. They are allowed to give a factual reference. The future employer can read into this however they choose if you left because you were sacked for gross misconduct, they are allowed to state this under reason for leaving. If you left pending disciplinary action they can also state this.
Many employers choose to give a standard reference just stating yes you worked there for specific dates and don't give out any more information, but never rely on this.
I was dismissed for gross misconduct, I got a temping job over Xmas and then I was able to provide my new employer with the temp job as a reference, therefore easier to explain why I left my last job.
It's not the end of your career, unless you choose not to learn from it.0 -
