Epilator/Returns

Im considering an epilator as am sick of shaving my legs every other day in the summer, however am terrified its going to hurt like hell. Looking to use for legs, bikini and underarms.

Any recommendations? I had one around 20 years ago and I understand (hope) things have come on a lot since then!

Also, just in case its unbearable (and some are upwards of £90 or so nowadays) does anywhere have a no quibble returns policy? - I know its icky but I don't want to spend £££s and never use it again

Thanks again all

I use a old one and i am so used to it now that it hardly hurts at all.
I wouldnt think the shops would take it back if you have used it.Or i hope they dont.
Have you not got a friend and borrow their one?

I bought the Braun Epil Silk 5 last weekend from Boots. It's currently half priced and I am really impressed with it :)

Yes it hurts, I now use Phillips Lumea, and I'm very happy (there are cheaper brands out there). It looks expensive but you don't need to do it very often, and you end up being practically hairless (except touching up every few months)

I have the Braun silk-epil 7681 wet&dry which I received as part of a test trial. I wouldn't have bought one before trailing the one I have and to be honest, I often find I have to shave to catch the hair the epilator didn't catch despite its claims to remove even the smallest hairs. I wouldn't pay a lot for one but do use the one I have if I'm in a hurry. Its quick, not particularly painful and does mostly work and I don't have to shave often.
I can't use it anywhere else as I can't tolerate the pain! Its completely unbearable on my bikini line and I haven't attempted my under arms! However if its just for your legs then I'd say give it a go.

  • Thanks all.
Think I'll research the lumea, it's a massive chunk of change for me, have prev used Groupon deals for IPL at salons and wasn't convinced though. Any ideas how it compares?

I love my epilator. Mine is the Braun wet and dry and I'd definitely recommend using it in the shower. I find it painful to use it dry. I used to go to a salon for a Brazilian wax every 5/6 weeks but now use the epilator for that. Also do my underarms with it and they don't hurt at all. It's so much better than waxing. No mess and so quick to do.

Only issue I've had is with mechanical problems needing repairs. Have to say though, that I've found Braun customer service fantastic.

I have the same as ripplyuk and use it in the same areas, haven't had any mechanical problems though. Some areas are more sensitive than others but you get used to it. I have found with my underarms that the hairs now grow through as fine blonde, whereas when I shaved they were dark and obviously stubbly. I only need to do my underarms once a week tops now, which is great.
What goes around comes around.....I hope!
