Need urget expert help with mortgage

Hi all
I am hoping for some advice which might ease my mind,
I am in trouble but I need to give you the full story so please bear with me.
In 2007 a friend came to me asking if I would be a joint name on a mortgage so my friends mother wouldnt be made homeless. It was made clear that I was not going to be paying a penny towards the mortgage. Well out of the kindness and stupidity of my heart I said ok as long as its only for a short while.
Suffice to say 7 years has passed, she has declared bankrupt, mortgage arrears of over £4,000 and its going to county court to repo the house to pay towards the bankruptcy. Now I dont give a damn about the house or her as I havent been in contact with her for 4 years, I have been living abroad and have came back to the UK to this surprise.
I have tried for years to get my name off the mortgage to no avail. My bank is aware and noted in the system that I was name only. But legally wise I am responsible for the payments even though I have never ever paid a single payment or even lived at the house.
I am now going to be shown as having county court judgement against me and having bad credit. My credit has always been very good and have no default payments to any of my creditors of the years and never missed a payment which it shows in my report. The biggest problem I have now is that it is going to effect my job and any future government jobs I apply for in the future. I am screwed.
I am going to citizens advice tomorrow to see what they say and going to my bank. But I would appreciate any advice any of you may have to help me out.
I know I was stupid and naive.
MAny thanks to you all
