When we start out on the Debt-Free Wannabe trail we do loads of big "stuff" that makes quite a difference to our situation. These include having our lightbulb moment, cutting up the credit cards and cancelling Sky and the Gym.
But once we have done the bigger stuff, we often feel that we are not making the same amount of progress, when in fact the small steps are helping us form good financial habits and helping us get closer everyday to staying in control and becoming debt free, or staying debt free...
Examples could be hanging washing out instead of using the tumble dryer or leaving your purse/wallet at home to avoid the risk of spending.:money:
Morning
happy hump day everyone :T

Good Morning all,
Check bank account
Managed to get free work breakfast and lunch as part of a project budget allowance, available when your meetings are more than 5 hours of the day!0 -
Hello all.
Sorry you are feeling ill DNMS - there's a lot of lurgies going round. Hubbie is still recovering from pneumonia but he is starting a phased return to work next week (working from home at first). Take it easy (well as easy as possible with a small child to look after) - ignore the DIY!
After 5+ hours of meetings you'll have earned that free food Sonear!
Today I am at work, have had breakfast at home and am about to eat packed lunch (leftover Spanish omelette - yum). Tea is jacket spuds and salad.
Have checked bank accounts, all is well and son1 finally paid his keep money after a strongly worded plea. He has got the money and means to pay it but has a brain like a sieve!!
Feel a trip to @ldi coming on. I need moisturiser (£1.99 and as good as any brand I've ever used), shampoo and conditioner (always getting asked what brand I use), toothpaste (79p for a big tube and again as good as the brand we used to buy at more than double the price), deodorant and several other things that are excellent value and worth the drive. Can't wait for the new one to open nearer to us.
Washing is on the line, lovely sunny day today :T
Best wishes all x0 -
Good afternoon, DNMS – Thanks for starting the thread off this morning
Well the last couple of days have been a bit strange for me, yesterday I got a letter saying my csa was being stopped as son was no longer living with me which then went onto reveal that I could have money waiting for me to claim. Today I have been sent an unconditional offer for a course, which is the next step to making a much better future.
I didn’t get a chance to post yesterday but have decided that I will get on here today and keep the positive frame of mind going.
My list for today:
Do business paperworkWork in Progress
Do some course work
Check free postcode lotteryDone
Check birthday bingoDone
Nectar adpointsDone
Get a quick showerDone
Do meal plan for July
Update details with car insurance companyDone
Try to find bank lettersWork in Progress

I think that is everything for today. Hope everyone has a good Wednesday x0 -
Hello Wednesday Savers,
Today's small money saving things:
*Saved a bit of energy by sharing bath water, leaving hair to dry naturally & switching off the iron for the last garment.
*Sticking to meal plans - made 1/4 pounders from mince I had in the freezer, defrosted 2 home made bread rolls to serve them in & will pick salad from the garden to go with it.
*Coloured my hair using the £2-99 pack of hair colour I found in Waitrose last month. It saves so much money compared with having it done at the salon. Party & a nice Sunday outing this weekend & no way am I going to have manky roots in the photos!
*Update grocery budget. We rarely do top-up shops but had to get extra cat-litter yesterday as have discovered new cat can poo for Britain!!
*Dealt with leftover tortilla wraps befire they turn into blue furry cardboard. (2 for mr f's lunch, a quesadilla for my lunch & froze the rest for next time we have fajhitas).
*Did a few surveys.
*Water & feed veggies.
*Weed herb garden & cut bunches of herbs for drying. I always enjoy this job. My in-laws save the Douwe Egberts style glass stoppered coffee jars for my herb & spice cupboard. I do laods of cooking & preserving so those titchy little supermarket jars are never big enough.
*Re-knit the bit of my knitting which I pulled out last night. The trouble with black stocking stitch is that just one slack stitch will show up, so as it's a present, I nobly unpiggled 4 whole rows!
*Make tomorrow's packed lunch & work snacks.
*Start a mending pile for a rainy day.
DNMS - sorry about the lergy. Home made french onion soup great for lergies, but the weather's a bit hot to fancy it at the moment.
Solevencyseeker - Agree about Aldi. There are certain things we always get from there: 59p tuna, reduced fat mayonnaise (79p), Corale baked beans (mr f's 'bean of choice'), tinned tomatoes, bread flour, crispbreads, & lots of other things. I also swear by their anti-histamine tablets. I react quite badly to mosquito bites so make sure I always have these in stock as they are way cheaper than branded. I also use Waitrsoe, Co-op, local market & independent shops. I used to get pretty much everything from one shop but I really enjoy shopping around now.
OK, time for lunch then on with the list.
f x2026's challenges: 1) To rebuild our Emergency Fund to at least £5k.
2) To read 50 books (12/50) 3) The Re-Shrinking of Foxgloves 8.1kg/30kg
Remember....if you have to put it on a credit card, extend your overdraft or take out a loan to buy whatever it is, you probably can't afford it, as that's not your money, it's somebody else's!0 -
Flying visit. Hello friends, new and old.
Today I:
Didn't go to Sainsbury's to buy donuts when I craved them. We have a kitchen full of food.
Paid an extra £100 off my debt.
Didn't buy new socks. Will knit some instead.
Get well soon DNM.Debt-free day: 8th May 2015 "Remember that sometimes not getting what you want is a wonderful stroke of luck," Dalai Llama0 -
