Private medical benefit tax issue

Hi,
I am hoping that this is in the correct forum and that somebody will be able to advise....
The problem:
I resigned from my job in February 2014 and worked my notice leaving 25th April, one of my benefits was private medical.
On 5th May I started a new job and have to pass probation before the company benefits kick in, however I spoke to the tax office today and discovered that my tax code is still showing my private medical benefit from the previous employer and this won't be removed until 2015.
My questions are:
1. Why is private medical an annual benefit and we are not allowed to pro rata it.
2. Can I go back to my previous employer and argue that as they knew I was leaving they shoulc have removed the benefit or given me the option to cancel it.
3. When my new employer offers private medical will I in essence be paying double as I will have 2 private medical insurances.
4. As my previous employer has offered the benefit can I still use it even though I am no longer employed there?
Thanks

Your tax code for this year is based on your benefits from the previous year.
So your private medical benefit from last year is what you are paying for this year Via your tax code. That is why the cost doesn't stop as you are not paying for the current month.Debt at highest: £8k. Debt Free 31/12/2009. Original MFD May 2036, MF Dec 2018.0
