Cabot Money Claim Online - HELP

Hello all,
I have today received a letter from Cabot regarding a Vanquis credit card that went into default in October 2008. In all honesty, I have moved house so many times in the years since I had forgotten all about it.
The letter has details of Money Claim Online (MCOL) that I must respond to and I've logged in and had a look. but I'm unsure where to go from here.
The original debt was £250, now risen to £404 and then with Cabot costs (£35 court, £50 solicitor), it's now £489
I've never received any correspondence from Cabot about this debt (it's also in my previous name) and this claim is news to me.
There's no way I have nearly £500 to pay them, so where do I stand? What can I do to either contest or reduce the amount?
I have to respond soon to the letter that I got today, but don't know which route to take.
Thanks in advance
