They would never do this to a customer

I don't understand why employers do things to their employees that they wouldn't even dream of doing to a customer.
Where I work, you get a £10 welcome gift card. I was given it, and that's it. Turns out, if you don't spend it all, you lose whatever you don't spend and they take it back. I bought 2 tops for my uniform, but had £4 left over. The manager said, "You won't get £4 back." and I thought he meant in cash. Normally if the left over is under £5 on a gift card, they give you cash. But I thought he meant that I'll get £4 store credit. But no. I lost the £4. It's not about the amount, but the fact that he was not clear about losing the money, and we weren't told of the rule when we got the cards. When I asked if I could use the rest on a top later that day, he told me the money is lost, but in a really snarky way.. They would never do this to a customer, so why would they do this to their own employee? It's so annoying how cheap they are.

They say Gift do they really mean gift. Was this a card to use to by clothing for work? This sounds more like a contribution towards uniform costs if this is the case and amounts to no more than ten quid towards clothing costs. Your Manager should have made this clear if not I can understand how peed off you are!Dirty Cash- DEBT BATTLER:mad:0

Think yourself lucky. In all my 22 years working life, I've never got such a thing.0 -

It was to go towards my uniform, and I did get two tops. I understood that. I'm just annoyed he didn't explain the T&Cs of the card. I wanted to get another top for work, and was going to use that extra £4, but I guess not. They want us to wear the company's current lines. But if I knew I would lose any money not spend in that go, I would have gotten the other top then and there. He should have made it clear that I had to use it in one go.0
