Intent to reside

Has any one had any experience of this being requested? Our situation is that I currently live and work in Berkshire, but hubby & I are originally from Gloucestershire (as our families are). Hubby is in the army, and we have decided to put down some roots in Gloucestershire by buying a house there.
My work have agreed to me working from home 2 days a week, so I would only be away from Tuesday morning to Thursday evening, (I have farily flexible arrangements and often spend at least one day a week out in meetings anyway!) and hubby will be living at the house weekends, but obvs has to be back in barracks monday - friday.
Just interested to know if anyone else has been in a similar situation and what you found?
we have been asked to submit a letter stating our intention to reside - but not sure how this helps the underwriters?
our broker doesn't seem to think this is a problem, but having previously gone direct to a lender we were declined on the basis that they 'weren't satisified about our intent to reside' ??
Any thoughts would be greatfully received!!
